Sidney "Hillman" Perkins

Mr. Sidney "Hillman" Perkins, 84, of Marrestop Rd., Murphy, N.C., formerly of Blairsville, Ga., died Friday, May 9, 2008 in the Murphy Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Perkins was born Jan. 2, 1924 in Macon, Ga., the son of Jimmye Riley Perkins and the late Robert N. Perkins. He was a veteran of the US Army of WWII. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM, the Kiwanis Club, The Elks Club, American Legion and the VFW. Hillman attended and graduated from the Young Harris School System. Besides loving his family most of all, he loved riding horses, the mountains and loved reading, which he did almost every day. He cared for the young and elderly and worked hard for children's charities. Hillman will be remembered for his joy of life, he lived life to its fullest each and every day. Mr. Perkins attended Mt. Morriah Baptist Church.

Surviving Mr. Perkins is his loving wife of 60 years, Marjorie Bartlett Perkins of Murphy; mother, Jimmye Riley Snow (who is a 105 years old) of Blairsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie P. Fender of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Ann and Clyde Suit of Ft. Pierce, Jill and Robert Ritten of Ft. Pierce; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Ted H. and Dr. Susan Perkins of Vero Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Ashley Williams, Robert Fender III, Michael Suit, Tiffany Lee, Jessica, Childs, Lindsey and Chase Perkins, Zachary Suit; great grandchildren, Dalton Beach-Stone, Madison Owens, Sydney (Lexi) Williams, Jake Lee, Shawn and Mercedes Childs and Mason Suit; many other relatives and friends also survive.

A memorial service was held Monday, May 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. from the Mt. Morriah Baptist Church in Murphy with the Rev. Ronnie Crisp officiating. In lieu of flowers if you wish, the family requests that memorials may be made to an orphanage of your choice in memory of Mr. Perkins.
