Frederick Scott Boris

Frederick Scott Boris, 84, of Blairsville, Ga., died May 8, 2008 at Union General Hospital.

He was born in Daytona Beach, Fla., son of the late Margaret Elizabeth Scott Boris and Nicholas Yachovich Borissoff, a Russian immigrant and Spanish- American war veteran. He was preceded in death by son Frederick Scott Boris Jr.

Fred grew up on a chicken farm in Daytona Beach during the depression, and graduated high school in Key West, Fla. Earning four Bronze Stars in the Navy during World War II, he then went to Florida State University on the GI Bill. Fred played defense on FSU's first football team and graduated in 1951. Being crushed beneath the wheels of an Alabama cement truck while foreman at Buck's Power Plant provided his medical team the opportunity to make history by being the first to use gangrene as a tool for the removal and healing of damaged flesh. After recovering in Tallahassee, Fla., Fred made a career change to Real Estate sales. He continued this career in Satellite Beach, Fla., until retirement in 1992, when he and his wife Sue moved to the beautiful mountains of north Georgia. His lifelong hobbies included gardening and fishing.

Fred was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blairsville, The American Legion, Sons of the American Revolution, and was a lifetime member of the VFW.

Surviving family members include his wife, Etta Sue Payne Boris of Blairsville; son, Joseph Nicholas Boris of Atlanta; daughter, Onie Celeste Burr of Atlanta; granddaughters, Genevieve Moore Hutchings and Isabelle Scott Hutchings of Atlanta.

Memorial Service with Honor Guard will be held at the First Baptist Church of Blairsville at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2008 with the Reverend Danny Parris presiding. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
