Help for family and caregivers of Alzheimer's/ Dementia Patients The Mountain Regional Library in Young Harris will host a book signing on Saturday, May 17 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. for Agnes Miller Murner, author of Because I've Been There, a journey through Alzheimer's. Ms. Murner's book offers practical, simply stated help for caregivers from a daughter's journey with her mother through Alzheimers. Each page offers insight to what is happening, or a thought, idea, or suggestion is given to help the stress and pressure of the day be more bearable. Ms. Murner states "My heart goes out to those with dementia, and to their families. My passion and desire is to help the Alzheimer's victim by helping their loved ones, and those who are their caregivers, better understand what is happening, what they can't do anything about that needs to be accepted (for they cannot provide the love and care needed while living in denial), what they can do to help, and how they can step into the Alzheimer/dementia world and still have a meaningful relationship, however different it may be." Although the book does not offer medical advice, it has been endorsed by physicians as well as pastors and other professionals who work with Alzheimer/dementia patients and their families. Its practical format, non-medical day to day information and help for caregivers professional and non-professional make it invaluable to support groups, libraries, churches, and the general public. "Being a primary caregiver for my mother during the time she was having TIA's¿ as well as Alzheimer's disease was a privilege for which I will always be thankful, . .but it was a heart-breaking time." A time which she aptly describes in Because I've Been There, a journey through Alzheimer's. Come, meet this talented author and share your experiences with her. She will be autographing copies of her book. |
