Union man gets third degree
Neither rubber hoses nor hazing attended the April 17 elevation of a Blairsville man to a new position of honor in the Union/Towns Council of the Knights of Columbus. K of C member and St. Francis of Assisi parishioner George Holland was recently inducted into the fraternal order's 'Third Degree.'
Mr. Holland's elevation to the honored position followed a close oral examination by a group of his fraternal brothers to determine the depth of his knowledge of and commitment to the order's principles of faith, charity and unity. Pictured above receiving certification are, on the right, George Holland, and Council Grand Knight Donald Diemer. The newly honored Knight is now a third year convert to Catholicism, and co-mom 'n pop owner - with wife Cecilia - of Logan Turnpike Mill, on GA Hwy. 129, south of Blairsville. Logan
Turnpike Mill - the store -
was taken from its early location on Richard Russell Scenic Highway, the old Logan Turnpike. The mill had moved but like the melody, the mill name lingered on.
