Local swimmers excel at meet

The Blue Ridge Mountain Fitness Club's swim team, the North Georgia Rapids, sent several swimmers to Dalton, Georgia to compete in the "Mako-Mania All Trophy Swim Meet". All team members had excellent races with two bringing home trophies.

The team's eight and under girls age group consisted of Mille Burger and Megan Foster. Both girls bettered all of their previous best times in the four events each swam. Millie earned two trophies, a fourth and a fifth in the 25 yd. backstroke and breaststroke respectively. Millie was one of the fastest seven year olds at the meet and has been swimming with the Rapids for two years. Megan's best finish was a ninth place in the girls 100 yd. individual medley. All of Megan's times significantly improved and she should continue to improve with her dedicated work ethic. Megan has been competitively swimming less than a year.

Like Megan, Kori Sofield has been swimming less than a year and continues to show great improvement. Kori lowered her times in all four

of her races and swims in

the girls 10 and under age group.

Tanner Gay wrapped up the afternoon session by winning a trophy in his first event, the 100 yd. freestyle. Tanner lowered his previous best time by almost five seconds. Tanner's other races were also personal best times and he missed winning a second trophy in the 100 yd. backstroke by less than a second.

The team is training hard for the upcoming summer season and would like to encourage other kids to join and participate in the summer fun. For more information, contact team Coach Barry Gay at 706-835-1662.
