Baumans open concert season

It's concert season again at The Old Courthouse on the Square. the Union County Historical Society will present a summer series of concerts from the first Friday in May until the end of October.

To open the season on Friday, May2 at 7:00 p.m, The Union County Historical Society is pleased to present The Bauman Family.

The Bauman family band is an affiliation of professional and pre-professional musicians from the Blairsville area. This is a very close-knit group, four of the band members go so far as to say "it feels like we were born into it". Drummer and chief Roadie Jeff Bauman has quite a job to do in packing up the band's equipment for a gig, not to mention finding places in the family car for the rest of the band! Jeff and his lovely wife, Diane, (the band's bassist) needed some guitars and voices to fill out their rhythm section - and found them in their four children. The oldest, Kenna (13), plays the guitar and sings lead vocals. She is currently studying guitar with Mr. Richard Knepp at Young Harris College. Next in line is Adele, age 11, who plays lead and rhythm on the blue guitar and sings lead and back-up vocals. Cora, age 8, plays guitar, tambourine, and is taking piano from Ms. Cynthia DeFoor at YHC. Finally, Milo "Wild Man" Bauman, age 7, the youngest member of the band, helps his Dad on percussion and vocals and is beginning guitar.

The Bauman Family has been playing together since 2003. They began performing at their church, First UMC of Union County, and soon unleashed themselves upon an unsuspecting public with appearances at Young Harris College and at the historic Courthouse in Blairsville. Their unique blend of musical styles ranges from traditional favorites to the Beatles to folk rock. They practice every morning before school and, although there are mornings when at least one of them gets out of the wrong side of the bed, they enjoy the time together spent in harmony.

The summer concerts are presented by The Union County Historical Society as a community service and to continue the tradition of music in The Old Courthouse. There is no required admission charge, but voluntary donations to the maintenance fund of the Union county Historical Society are always welcomed and appreciated.
