Hazel Druzella Austin McRae
Hazel Druzella Austin McRae, 83, of Blairsville, Ga., died Saturday, April 12, 2008 following complications from a fall.
Hazel was born in Acworth, Ga., on August 10, 1924 and lived most of her life in Smyrna and Marietta, Ga., moving to Blairsville about 15 years ago. She is the daughter of the late Loren Joseph Austin Sr., and Lora Pauline Austin. Mrs. McRae was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Keys of Cartersville, Ga., and her brother, L.J. "Brother" Austin, of Blairsville and Sebring, Fla.
Hazel is survived by her husband of 65 years of marriage, Herman McRae of Blairsville; daughter and son-in-law Dr. Cheryl McRae-Bergeron and Woodrow Bergeron of Blairsville; grandsons, Adam Bergeron of San Diego, Calif., David Bergeron; great-grandchildren, Brian and Mia of Brussels, Belgium; beloved nieces, Debbie Russ of Powder Springs, Ga., Joyce Shannon of Jackson, Ga., Barbara Newton of McDonough, Ga., and Shelia Smith of Cartersville, Ga.; nephews, Wayne Austin of Seneca, S.C., and Robert Austin of Sebring, Fla.; sister-in-law, Dorothy Austin of Sebring, Fla., formerly of Blairsville, and her sister,
Betty Bryant of Sebring, Fla.
Hazel was a graduate of Smyrna High School, was
the Brownie Girl Scout
Leader of Chapter 11, a member of Chapter 387
of the Loyal Order of the Eastern Star and a devout Baptist. She retired from Hanover Insurance Company in
Atlanta, Ga. Her strong will and guidance will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-8, Sunday, April 13. Funeral services were held Monday, April 14 at 11 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home with the Reverend George Cline officiating and interment at Kennesaw Memorial Park, Marietta, Ga. Pallbearers were Larry Shapiro, Jonathon Lodge, Ronnie Newton, Roy Russ, Bobby Jarred, Harold Plot, Pete Hill, Jimmy Morrison and Adam Bergeron. Donations in Hazel's memory can be made to Antioch Baptist Church, Blairsville, Ga.
