Catholics Returning Home

If Union and Towns countians hadn't noticed the big building now under construction at Blairsville's St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Young Harris Highway, they may be wearing blinders. The Catholics are not only coming, they're here. And they're good neighbors to many in Union and Towns counties who'd never met a Catholic before. One of their many parish functions follows the 'Prodigal Son' lesson, calling drifted away Catholics back to the fold.

Heading the effort is St. Francis of Assisi parishioner, Mary Jenkins, who recently announced her parish's second sixsession program seeking to help former Catholics find answers to questions leading to their return to the faith of their Catholic birth. The second scheduled Catholics Returning Home program will commence on Thursday, April 17. Participants will be updated as to recent developments within Catholicism, and will share opportunities for personal discussion, including factors that may have alienated them to begin with, along with factors prompting their possible interest in seeking reconciliation.

Mary K. Jenkins' first Catholics Returning Home program produced results sufficient to encourage its repetition, and is now a permanent parish function. Mary Jenkins, who is employed daytimes, is available weekday evenings after 7 p.m. to answer questions regarding the program, and may be reached either at 706-745- 7497, or mkj5125@alltel.net.
