Last Friday afternoon the Lady Panthers of Union County, coached temporarily by UCHS boys soccer coach Mike West, played area rival Towns County. Apparently the girls did a great job for their temporary coach who replaced veteran Tim Hunter who was away coaching in the GACA All Star game.
Union struggled for the first half of the first half before they managed to take advantage of their skill and take a 1-0 lead. Shortly before half time the Lady Panthers extended their lead to 2-0.
In the second half the Lady Panthers managed another score to assure the victory and bring about the final 3-0 win.
The boys playing after the girls started off fast paced. Both teams played hard and both the offenses and defenses of both teams were tested. Union, due to their speed and skill superiority managed to score first and then two successive goalkeeper errors by Towns allowed Union to get a 3-0 half time lead.
The Panthers scored two more times before subs on both sides took over for the final ten minutes of the game. However, it was probably one of the more exciting games as both team fought to the final whistle.
