OASIS welcomes Spring Older Adults Sharing In Service (OASIS) celebrated the beginning of our Spring 2008 term with Suches' own fiddle champ, Alex Thomlinson, who entertained the lunch bunch with a program of lively old-time mountain hoedowns and audiencepleasing waltzes accompanied by Rachel Caviness on bass and Cheryll Thomlinson on rhythm guitar. Alex is the current State Champion Beginning Fiddler in both Georgia and Alabama, current 3rd Place in the Tennessee State Fiddle Championship, as well as the current First Place Fiddler in the National Championship Country Music Beginners Competition held in Smithville, Tenn. We all enjoyed an excellent hot lunch catered by Cook's Country Kitchen in Blairsville. OASIS is a community outreach program sponsored by First United Methodist Church of Union County. The Spring Term includes 240 seniors enjoying 39 classes and 2 workshops. We are offering two new classes: Beginning Oil Painting and Japanese Culture and Language. Contact Registrar Ruth Twedt at 706-781-6724 or email her at truth@brmemc.net for more information or to inquire about class openings. |
