Blairsville PTO seeking nominations

The Blairsville Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is seeking nominations for next fall's new slate of officers, including the positions of President and Secretary. If interested or for more information, please contact Kris-Ann Stanley at 706-896-4118 or krisann@hiawasseelaw.com. Voting for the new slate of officers is expected to be at a general PTO meeting to be held at the Elementary School on Monday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. Raffles will also be held.

There was a general PTO meeting on March 24, 2008, at the Middle School. The Middle School Chorus performed, there was a raffle with door prizes and there was a presentation by representative of the I-Safe Committee, discussing internet safety and our children.

There will be an art show held at the High School gym on May 16 and 17, with the school children attending on the Friday, May16. The show will be open to the public on the Saturday the 17th.

Recent sponsored events include "Donuts with Dad" and "Muffins with Mom" at the Primary School. Parents could enjoy a quick snack with their children provided by the PTO, with the orange juice being donated by Ingles. The PTO sends a special thank you to Ingles for their generosity in supporting parent-involved activities at the schools.

Near Christmas, the PTO sponsored a Family Fun Night in conjunction with the Primary School. Prior to a free showing of "Polar Express," there was silent auction of various gift baskets, a cake walk, face painting and concessions. Proceeds went to the purchase of playground equipment for the Primary School, as well as to the PTO to continue to sponsor further events to bring together the community and schools.

Another Family Fun Night is in the planning stages for May.

Just a reminder that joining the PTO is only $5 for the year, with proceeds used to fund activities and events for the schools. The PTO is an nonprofit organization.

For anyone wishing to contact the PTO, each school has PTO mailbox checked regularly. The 2007-2008 PTO Executive Board members are: President- Melinda Weldon; Vice President

Kris-Ann Stanley; Secretary- Lisa Harmon and Treasurer Catherine Williams.
