Speakers motivate Tri-County Democratic Women

Wednesday, March 19 proved to be an exciting day for the monthly gathering of the TriCounty Democrat Women. Three guest speakers created lively conversation at Elsie's Restaurant in Andrews.

Hayden Rogers, Chief of Staff for Congressman Heath Shuler reported on Washington updates and the future goals of the beloved statesman. Rogers shared updates on Shuler's continuing goal to make sure rural areas like the 11th District are included in future policy. During this competitive election cycle both Clinton and the Obama camps are spending time with democratic super delegates. To date Shuler remains unpledged.

From the Beverly Perdue for Governor Campaign office, Juleigh Sitton told of her loyalty to Ms. Perdue whose political career she has followed for years. Ms. Sitton, a retired attorney from Morganton, joined the Perdue staff to ensure the western most rural counties would be included in state policy.

The third speaker for the luncheon was L.D. Hyde, Chairman of the 11th Congressional District, from Bryson City. The well known attorney shared his pleasure with the formation of this new group of Democratic women. He encouraged them to embrace the national "Constructing Victory" campaign set forth by the DNC. Hyde ended with the democratic mantra of "Everyone is better off, when everyone is better off, Vote Democratic." The ladies heartily agreed with rousing applause.

Each speaker remarked on area job losses, gas prices, reduction in new home construction and the economy. The room seemed pleased with what they heard and appreciated candid answers to questions from the floor.

The next meeting will be held Tuesday evening, April 16th at Sybil's Place in Murphy. For more information on the TriCounty Democratic Women of NC contact President Pat Hardin 828-321- 5201 or 2nd Vice President Nancy Helms 828-837-3638.
