Thinking Day for local girl scouts

The girls of Towns County Brownie Troop 1510 took a mini trip around the world when they attended the Girl Scout World Wide Thinking Day Event in Gainesville, Georgia on February 16, 2008 at the Georgia Mountain Center. They went to the event representing the country of Denmark. Each of the girls did a lot of research on Denmark to prepare for setting up their booth at the show. The girls took turns manning the booth on Denmark. They stamped passports as the other girls scout took their world tours. They also welcome the other girl scouts to Denmark in Danish and even sang songs and nursery rhymes. Some of the girls wore costumes representing the folk costumes of Denmark. While they were at the show they were able to sample food, music, and other cultural ideas from 22 other countries around the world.

All of the Girl Scouts were presented with passports, as they visited the different countries they were able to have their passports stamped. Some of the countries that were represented and they were able to visit were China, Egypt, Scotland, and France to name just a few. They were able to participate in other cultures by playing musical instruments to Calypso and African beat music, playing Chinese hop scotch and strolling by the Eiffel Tower.

The Brownies collected swaps from the other countries as keepsakes. A swap is made by the girls representing an item or event of interest, with a piece of paper with their troop number and county listed on it. The girl scouts exchange them with other girls and by doing so meet new people and usually learn some thing new. The Towns County girls representing Denmark handed out book markers with interesting facts about Denmark.

The girls were able to set up their display on Denmark in the hallway out side of the Towns County Elementary Media Center so that they could share with all of the other students some of what they had learned about Denmark. One thing that they found was that Lego Blocks are made in Denmark and that Hans Christian Anderson who wrote so many fairy tales and stories was born and wrote in Denmark.

The Girls of Brownie Troop 1510 would like to thank the following individuals and groups for helping them have a fantastic display on Denmark:

Mrs. Stephanie Moss' 2nd grade class for pictures and Flat Trey

Mrs. Louise Hooper of Something Special for the loan of a swan (a national symbol), Mrs. K. O'Brien, Mrs. F. Knight , Mrs. R. Copeland, Mrs. E. Churchill, Mrs. C. Stowers, Mrs. B. Allen wooden shoes. And a Special thanks to the Danish Embassy in Washington D. C. and the Scandinavian Tourist Bureau, New York
