Public input sought on Jake and Bull Mountain Trails The U.S. Forest Service is holding an open house for anyone interested in the hiking, biking, and equestrian trails in the Jake and Bull Mountain area on the Chattahoochee National Forest. Jake and Bull Mountain trails are located in western Lumpkin County, less than ten miles from downtown Dahlonega. Anyone interested in the future management of these trails is invited to attend and discuss their recreational experiences in this area of the national forest. The Jake and Bull Mountain Trail System provides approximately 35 miles of recreational riding for equestrians, bicyclists and hikers. The Jake Mountain Trail System and Bull Mountain Trail System connect to form a complex system of scenic trails within a four square mile area of the Chattahoochee National Forest. The trail system has experienced a tremendous increase in use over the past several years. Unfortunately, its popularity has led to accelerated maintenance needs and user conflicts. "This two-hour public open house is intended to provide an opportunity for trail users, local landowners and surrounding community members to discuss their experiences, concerns and desires for future trail maintenance and management of this area," said Alison Koopman, District Recreation Supervisor. The public open house is scheduled for Thursday, April 17 in the Heritage Room Main at the Lumpkin County Community Center beginning at 6:00 p.m. Individuals interested in attending this meeting should pre-register by contacting the project leader, Alison Koopman, at the Blue Ridge Ranger District Office. Koopman may be reached by calling (706) 745-6928, ext. 118, or by email at akoopman@ fs.fed.us. |
