Road to Recovery

Are you a cancer patient? Do you need a ride to and from your treatment sessions? A lack of transportation should not be the reason why cancer patients do not receive the life-saving cancer treatment they need. The American Cancer Society offers their Road to Recovery program to help transport cancer patients to and from their treatment. The Society has a toll-free number that you may call, and an operator will put you in touch with local volunteers that give cancer patients without personal transportation rides to and from their cancer treatment sessions. Bereavement Support Group

Welcome to a community bereavement support group. A place to share your thoughts and feelings and grow together with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

First Thursday of every month

Where: United Community Bank, Community Room, Blairsville, Georgia

When: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.,

Third Thursday of every month

Where: Bank of Blairsville, Community Room, Blairsville, Georgia

When: 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

GWRRA meets

Chapter J of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) meets the fourth Saturday of each month at Daniel's Steakhouse, Hiawassee, GA. We eat at 11 AM followed by the meeting at 12:00 during which rides and other activities are announced and discussed.

We encourage current members of the GWRRA and anyone interested in becoming a member to join us. All motorcyclists are welcome and we look forward to seeing participants from other chapters. There are great rides coming up and we hope many of you will join us.

Formerly known as Business Women of Blairsville, the Tri-State Business Women is an organization of entrepreneurial women in Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee who own and operate their own businesses and are a positive force in the community. Man to Man Prostate Cancer Support Group

Blairsville Parkinson's Disease support group

The Experimental Aircraft Association

Men's Morning Coffee Group

Regency Hospice announces Men's Morning Coffee Group at Mary Ann's Restaurant.

For men who have a lost spouse, partner, or experienced other losses and would like to share with other men, please join us on Tuesday at 10 a.m. We meet the first and third Tuesday morning of each month.

Ga. Mtn. Writers Club

We meet 10 a.m. to noon the second Wednesday of the month at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church on the Young Harris Highway.

We have no membership dues or elected officers and meet to share our writings and provide helpful criticism, inspiration, motivation and encouragement to each other.

Everyone is welcome. You do not have to be a writer - just visit and enjoy listening to readings and discussion. You will be entertained - and maybe acquire a new interest.

School Prayer Group

On Mondays from 8:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., the Community Room at the Bank of Blairsville is open for Christians willing to join together in earnest prayer for our community's public, private and home schools. Drip in as your schedule permits.

New Cancer Support Group

At the United Community Bank in Hayesville, N.C. Patients, families and friends are all welcome to attend. United Community Bank is located at the corner of Hwy. 64 and Hwy. 69. Free Tax Prep and EFiling

Once again this year you will be able to get your Federal and State Income Tax returns prepared and efiled for free. Even though the program is sponsored by AARP, and there is an emphasis on those over 60, tax payers of all ages are eligible. Simply bring in all of your tax related documents, Social Security card(s), picture ID(s) and tax return(s) from last year, if available. Tax payers will be taken on a firstcome, first-served basis; no appointments will be taken. We will be able to assist most tax payers, unless there are some very complex issues such as rental income, farm income, K-1 investments, commercial business and a few others.

We will be preparing returns in Hiawassee and in Blairsville. The location in Hiawassee will be the Hiawassee United Methodist Church and will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. each Monday, beginning on February 4 and continuing through April 14. In Blairsville, the location will be the Jury Assembly Room on the lower level of the new Union County Courthouse, and will be from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday from February 5 through March 6. Beginning March 11, the location in Blairsville will move to the Cadence Bank Community Room and will continue each Tuesday and Thursday through April 15.

Sessions fill quickly, so get in line early to ensure getting a slot on that day's schedule. For more information call George Schwane at 706- 745-0694.

Bagpipe Instruction

The Appalachian Saint Andrew's Pipes and Drums bagpipe band is offering free instruction to all who want to learn how to play the Great Highland Bagpipe or learn Regimental Drumming. Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast

The Blairsville Kiwanis club presents our all you can eat pancake breakfast Saturday, March 8. Help us help local kids during our all you can eat pancake breakfast Saturday, march 8th @ the First United Methodist Church Cafeteria on hwy 515. The Blairsville Kiwanis provides scholarship, grants, aid and supplies for children in need. Get your pancakes, sausage, milk, coffee, and juice. Eat in or carry out. "Trash and Treasure Sale" - Donations Wanted

The Friends of Union County Library are planning the second annual "Trash and Treasure Sale." The success of this sale depends on the generosity of community donations. All proceeds of the Trash and Treasure sale will benefit Union County Library.

Donations will be accepted at Union County Library, April 28, 29 and 30 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. However, we will not be able to accept clothing donations. Tax deduction receipts will be available for the items donated.
