A trip to Leatherwood Falls

Leatherwood Falls is the nicest, closest falls to Hayesville. There is a paved track with a metal walk bridge that leads to picnic area beside Fires Creek. The Falls tumble down about 100 feet across a series of boulders. A half mile trail loops around the Falls through the trees that crowd up next to the stream. This recreation area is quiet, accessible, and beautiful. From Main St. in Hayesville take Tusquittee St. for one mile. Turn left onto Fires Creek Rd. and go 4.4 miles. Turn right onto Fires Creek Refuge Rd. NC 1344. NC 1344 turns into FS Rd. 340. Photo and Information by: John Bowen
