STAR Student, Teacher

Cindy Williams, President of the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce and local sponsor of the Blairsville STAR Program is proud to announce that Angela Harkins of Union County High School and Andrew Tyson of Woody Gap School have been named 2008 STAR Students. Angela, who also serves as this year's system winner, selected Mrs. April Krieger of Union County High as her STAR Teacher. Andrew selected Mr. Glenn Kough as his STAR teacher at Woody Gap School. The PAGE Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, in its 50th year, has honored more than 21,000 high school seniors who have in turn chosen their STAR teachers to share in this recognition. Students are selected on the basis of their SAT scores and class standing/scholastic averages. The Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce has been the local sponsor for the STAR Program for many years and honors the STAR Students and STAR Teachers with awards of recognition and a reception. This year they will be recognized on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Woody Gap School beginning at 3:30 p.m.
