Tomayto, Tomahto- either way, try them green This is a recipe you'll want to clip and save for later on this year. It was submitted by Mrs. Wilonell Collins Dyer and is also in the Choestoe Baptist Church cookbook "Mountain Manna II" from 1998 - she's been making this recipe for almost 10 years. Fried green tomatoes are quite common on menus these days so as the season comes around (and while you are waiting for the sun to ripen and turn to red the juicy, fresh tomatoes we all love - as in "mater" sandwich), try out Mrs. Dyer's unique Green Tomato Pie for a delicious, tasty change. Green Tomato Pie
2 pie crusts (9 inch) 5 to 6 medium green tomatoes, sliced 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar 1 tsp. allspice Preheat oven to 375º. Line a 9-inch pie pan with pie crust. Fill crust with sliced tomatoes. In a small bowl, mix sugar, vinegar and next 4 ingredients. Pour mixture over tomatoes. Cover with remaining pie crust and bake 45 to 50 minutes or until golden brown. |
