Boys extend winning streak to 18 games As of press-time, the Union County Panthers are two wins away from the State Tournament. Union County picked up win number 16 on Friday night with a 75-51 win over Rabun County on Senior Night. Seniors Michael Ross and Austin Collins led the Panthers with 25 and 20 points each. The win also clinched the #4 seed in the sub-region and gave Rabun County the #5 seed. Fannin County finished #1 with Dawson coming in 2nd. East Jackson was third and Banks came in 6th to round out the North Sub- Region. On Monday night, Union traveled to East Jackson to take on Rabun County again in the first round of the Region Tournament. After jumping out to a 30-21 halftime lead, Union hung on to a 47-45 victory for win number 17 on the season. Michael Ross led Union with 24 points, Blake Gowder had six and Austin Collins added four. On Tuesday, Union will once again travel to East Jackson to take on the winner of East Jackson and Banks County. If the Panthers win, they will travel to North Oconee for a chance to punch their ticket to the state playoffs. If Union loses on Tuesday or Wednesday, their season will come to an end. A win on Tuesday and Wednesday and Union will travel to Putnam County to take on the Fannin County Rebels for a chance to play for the Region Title. |
