Union County Public Library knows 'Firewise'

Due to the ongoing drought across north Georgia, residents are becoming more concerned about the threat of wildland fire. A number of people live in what is called the wildland urban interface. This is the area typically defined as where homes and structures meet the forest. "Firewise" provides information through publications, videos and a website to help educate home and property owners of what they can do to defend against wildland fires. The USDA Forest Service Blue Ridge Ranger District recently donated Firewise VHS tapes to the library; these tapes can be checked out by the public. The tapes are titled "Wildfire- Preventing Home Ignitions" and "Home Improvement-A Firewise Approach." A number of free publications have also been provided for the public. The library and your local wildland fire agencies ask that you please take advantage of these opportunities to learn more about how you can be "Firewise." You may also check out the website www.firewise.org
