North Georgia Rapids Swim Team Winter update

The North Georgia Rapids Swim Team participated in the year's first competition by attending the "Fourth Annual Snowed-In-vitational" Meet in Clarkesville. The meet was relatively small in numbers of swimmers but was very competitive for those who attended. The team sent six swimmers and brought home a fourth place team trophy, the team's second consecutive trophy in as many meets.

Millie Burger, age 7, earned three seconds and one third place finish in the girls' 8 and under age group. Millie's best finish came in the 100 yd. individual medley, where she lowered her personal best time by over 6 seconds, earning a second place.

Megan Foster, age 8, also did very well, taking a third in the 100 yd. individual medley and a fourth and fifth in the 25 yd. backstroke and 50 yd. freestyle respectively. Megan also showed significant improvement with her times.

Kori Sofield, age 10, won ribbons in three of her four events, earning fifth, sixth and seventh place ribbons. She lowered her personal best time in the 100 yd. freestyle by an impressive 14 seconds. Kori continues to show strong improvement and is expected to expand her success in the future.

Two of the team's more experienced swimmers, Anna Knight and Courtney Marshall, both age 11, did exceptionally well, together earning 60 points toward the team's trophy. Courtney had personal best times in all of her events, earning two seconds, a third and a fourth place finish. Courtney is a dual sport competitor, playing basketball for the Towns County Recreation League. Anna received two personal best times during her four races. She lowered her 100 yd. backstroke time by over three seconds, taking a first place finish. Anna also won second, third, and fourth place ribbons in her other races.

Tanner Gay, 13, finished the team's scoring run with two personal best times in his four races. Tanner finished first in the 100 yd breaststroke, bettering his previous time by over 6 seconds. He also had two thirds and a fifth place finish for the day.

The team trains three days a week at the Blue Ridge Mountain Fitness Club's heated pool in Blairsville. We are always looking for new team members and now would be a great time to get started for this Summer's swim season.
