Nelson files for Commissioner

My name is Homer Eugene (Gene) Nelson and I am running for the office of Commissioner of Union County, Ga. I would like to express to the people of Union County that I am not a person of fancy words or political promises. My only promise to you is that I will do my best for ALL the Citizens of Union County. Together we can provide Union County with a government that embraces growth and development for our future, while protecting our rural way of life. With help from God and you, I will be able to make the right choices for Union County. If elected, I will work to manage the county's budget, reduce taxes, eliminate unnecessary spending, while taking care of the county's needs. We must bring the county back to where we can afford to live here.

I am 46 years old, a life long resident of Union County. My wife Lisa and I have been married for 27 years. We have been blessed with a large family which includes two daughters, Leighann and Machalia; three sons Daniel, Jeremiah and Bryan; our son-in-law, James; and our granddaughter, Jaleigh. am the son of Maggie Nelson and the late Homer Nelson of Blairsville. We are members of Mount Olivet Baptist Church, and I have been a deacon for seventeen years. My wife and were foster parents from 2000 to 2004. I graduated from Union County High School, and have two years of college, graduating from North Georgia Technical School. From 1973 to 1996, was a member of the Union County Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad. From 1984 to 1996, I was a member of Station Three Volunteer Fire Department and during this time, I was the Assistant Station Chief for 4 years, and the Station Chief for five years. I have experience in running construction equipment, road maintenance and construction. I worked at the Carlton Colwell Detention Center from 1989 to 1996 as a correctional officer II, drill instructor, detail officer, managed a fire brigade, vehicle maintenance and records. I owned and operated Nelson's Long Arm Mowing Service from 1994 until 2001. In 2001, I started my current business, Nelson Enterprise, where my son Jeremiah and I do equipment repair, welding and fabricating.

In the upcoming months, I ask you to go out in the community and find out who each Candidate is, and what we stand for. I am for making the decisions that will be best for the Citizens of Union County. If you have not, I urge you to take the time to register, and then please go vote so your voice will be heard. After all, we the Citizens of Union County will be voting for and determining who is elected into the office of Commissioner of Union County.

I ask you to say a prayer for all of the Candidates, because whoever you elect into office will have a great responsibility in serving the People of Union County.
