Cathy Cox, president of Young Harris College, invites the community to explore the artwork of Carol LeBaron. Works of art by LeBaron will be on display at the Campus Gate Art Gallery on the campus of Young Harris College January 17 through February 15. A reception will be held on January 17 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the gallery.
LeBaron received her B.A. in photography/printmaking and art history from Smith Colelge in Northampton, Mass. She received her MFA from Rhode Island School of Design. Aprofessional artist and educator, LeBaron teaches workshops and exhibits her work. She currently teaches Crafts and Western Tradition at Emory & Henry College, Art History at East Tennessee State University, and Sculpture at Virginia Highlands Community College. Her clamped wool and jacquard work has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
The methods used by LeBaron require her to allow the natural reaction of elements to play a part in the resulting pieces of artwork. As she collects fragments from both the landscape of remembered experience and observation of natural forms, the materials she uses become vehicles for expression in substantive color.
