Recreation News: Volunteers Wanted!

The Blue Ridge Ranger District is seeking volunteer hosts for the upcoming recreation season at Dockery Lake Campground, located in Lumpkin County and the Brasstown Bald Visitor Center, located within Towns and Union Counties. Campground and Visitor Center hosts are needed from April through early November. Campers can be provided to those interested in volunteering but are not able to provide their own personal trailer.

Volunteer hosts are expected to greet visitors, give directions, answer questions, handout brochures, and perform minor maintenance duties such as picking up litter, cleaning out campfire rings, replacing toilet paper, and cleaning restrooms. A host must work well with people, be personable and represent the Forest Service well. A host may be required to be on site up to five days per week, especially on the weekends and heavy use holidays. The most important job as a campground or visitor center host is to provide an enjoyable recreation experience for the public.

If you are interested in learning more about these and other volunteer opportunities, please contact Alison Koopman or Jake Cowart at the Blue Ridge Ranger District by calling 706-745- 6928.
