Murphy Miller to be sworn in as judge

Attorney Murphy C. Miller of Young Harris, Ga., will be sworn in as the third Superior Court Judge of the Enotah Judicial Circuit on Monday, January 7, 2008. Governor Sonny Perdue, who appointed Miller, will administer the oath of office.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony in the chamber of the House of Representatives at the State Capitol at 8:15 a.m. Two other newly appointed judges from Athens and Cordele will also be sworn in to their respective offices.

Miller stated, "I would be honored if any local citizens desire to attend and invite them to do so, but I realize how early 8:15 is to be in Atlanta on a Monday morning."

The new judge, an attorney since 1980, started practicing law in this area over eighteen years ago. He served as the

administrative law judge for

seventeen northeast Georgia counties and has been the Enotah Circuit Public Defender for the past three years.

He and his wife, Susan, have long been active in school, church, and community affairs. They have four children and five grandchildren.

Miller will assume his duties immediately. David E. Barrett and Lynn Akeley-Alderman are the other Superior Court judges for the Enotah Circuit, which includes Lumpkin, White, Union and Towns counties.
