2007 Bank of Hiawassee Classic
Julie Payne and Lori McClure of the Bank of Hiawassee greeted the junior players as they arrived. The Bank of Hiawassee has hosted the tournament for the last four years and each year the participation grows with more and more junior players. The perfect weather for the event with clear skies allowed the sun to shine warmly on the players providing some comfort on a chilly day. Steve Gonyea, President of the Tri-County Junior Golf Association, commented that the weather was a welcomed change and that for the first time in several years the tour would be completed without a rain out make up date being necessary. The girls' divisions provided great golf with Megan Rowe having a good round and edging her way into second place between the Martin sisters, Ellie and Erin, in the 9 and under division. Amanda Thompson returned to capture her fourth first place finish forcing Amber Williams to second place and Mia Manto to third in the 10-12 division. Morgan Bentley finished out the tour with her seventh consecutive first place trophy, with Miranda Carballo coming in second in the 13-15 division. Players of the boys' 8 and under division provided some changes with Dalton Danielson finishing with a trophy for the first time this season. Kyle Rhinehardt picked up his first of the season first place trophy, Colin Williams placed second, and Dante Curtis improved his game to finish third in the season final. Fourth through sixth places were Josh Cottrell, Dalton Danielson, and Corey Brown. In the 9-10 boys division, Jackson Burks showed improvement and captured first place with Grant Arencibia closing in for second place. Oliver Allison picked up third with Austin Humphries, Trey Sisson, and Thomas Andres rounding out the top six positions. In the 11-12 boys' division Eli Crumley ran his string of first place finishes for all seven tournaments. Eli was followed by Andrew Barrett, Josh Sprinkles, Coltin Stanley, Colby Jones, and Grant Schuette. It was Grant's second time placing this season. In the 13-14 boys' division Evan Brakefield returned to capture first place with Corbin Carter and Jacob Chambliss rounding out the top three. The 15-17 boys' division saw Andrew Bateman returning to capture first place with Jake Farner and Parker Lewis rounding out the top three positions. This week's tournament was again special because every county represented in The Ridges Junior Tour had winner. Union County led with the most winners at 10, followed by Clay County with 8, Cherokee County, NC with 6, Towns County with 3, Fannin County with 2, and White and Cherokee Counties both with 1 winner each.
