RFLfloat tells of Hope and a Cure

Union County's American Cancer Society's Relay for Life volunteers prepared a colorful entry in the local parade on Saturday, December 1 in Blairsville. "Thanks to the James Bridges family for allowing us to use the train for telling our favorite story---of Hope and a Cure," stated longtime volunteer Jane Berry Thompson.

The featured riders on the train included local American Cancer Society mascot "V.K. Kat," a giant black and white cat used in our youth tobacco prevention programs -"Kids Against Cancer." The front car of the train carried one of our youngest volunteers, Kalyna Ramirez and her mom Shayla Freshette. Both are "Relay For Life" supporters as well as the grand and great-granddaughters of Bob and Vee Laffoon, longtime local RFLvolunteers. Great-grandpa Bob was the train engineer for the parade as well.

Other volunteers prepared the float/train entry and walked along the parade route passing out candy and invitations for all cancer survivors and caregivers to come to the "Christmas at the College" event on that was held Thursday, Dec. 6 at NGTC.
