Rotary in Motion: Celebration of Past Presidents

The Union County Rotary Club recently held it's meeting celebrating "Past Presidents" with many of the local clubs past Presidents in attendance.

The Union County Rotary Club was Chartered June 27, 1989. Jimmy Tallent was the Rotary Club President in the first year. Since the first year the Rotary Club of Union County has grown and contributed and taken part in many projects in Union County as well as State level and International Projects.

Past Presidents in attendance at the meeting were (1990) President Joe Satterfield, (1991) Hugh Stone, (1992) Sam James, (1993) Scott Nelson, (1994) Steve Cockerham, (1995) Stan Gunter, (1997) Steve Rowe, (1999) Cary Cox, (2000) Gene Windham, (2001) Richard Landau, (2002) Rick Browning, (2003) Tsali Bentley, (2004) Rob Murray, (2005) John- Mark Turner, and (2006) Bob Ramay.

Several of the past Presidents spoke about their year as President and gave praise to the many people in the club that helped make their year as President a successful one. They also thanked the club members for their support and willingness to make our community a better place to live.

Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

There are over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary's main objective is service - in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

The Rotary Club of Union County has special guest speakers every week with a wide variety of interesting topics covering local, state, national, and international subjects.

The Rotary Club of Union County meets every Thursday at Cobb's Mill Restaurant in Blairsville.
