'Good Neighbors' award trophies

The Good Neighbors Auto Club gave out trophies for Cars, Trucks and Specialty entries at the 23rd Annual Car and Truck Show in Blairsville, Ga., at the Sorghum Fun Run which was held on October 20, 2007. Club members from the areas around Blairsville, Young Harris, Hiawassee, Murphy and Hayesville were on hand as the winners of the trophies were announced for presentation.

The Best Buick award, in memory of Dr. Linford Abernathy, was presented by his family, Mrs. Ginger Abernathy, April Harper, and Wynn Abernathy to Mr. G. Bagley from Suwanee, Ga., for his 1948 yellow Buick convertible.

The Best Chevy award was presented by George Stewart of Stewart Enterprises to A.C. Wilson from Tellico Plains, Tenn., with his 1957 red Chevrolet 2 door hard top. Mr. Wilson also won the Best Car Trophy.

The Good Neighbors Auto Club President's Choice award went to Michael Campbell from Hayesville, N.C., for his 1930 black Model A Tudor. The UNC Bank President's Choice was presented to Billy Rhoades from Murphy, N.C., with his 1967 Chevelle, and the Best Paint Award went to Rick and Susie Patterson from Blue Ridge, Ga., their entry was a 1953 wineberry 3100 Modified Chevrolet.

The Young Adult Trophy (age 20 and under) was presented by Wayne Tanner to Tyler Tarnowski, who resides in Murphy, N.C., with his 1985 brown Chevrolet Silverado Truck.

The Best Car Trophies were awarded to: David Holbrooks -1953 wild cherry Pontiac Convertible; John Jaworski - 1982 orange CJ8 Jeep Scrambler; James Powell - 1981 black Pontiac Trans Am; Tony Waldon - 1970 red Chevelle 2 door SS; Gary Whitmen - 1940 red Ford Coupe; Jerry Rich - 1963 red Volkswagen Beetle; Frank Capozzi - 1941 fire pepper red Willy's Coupe; Linda Sosebee - 1957 violet Chevrolet Bel Air; John & Tammy Campochiaro - their 1958 red and white Pontiac Chieftain convertible; John Connor - 1955 red and beige Chevrolet Bel Air; Herk and Marilyn Banger - 1937 red Ford 3 window Coupe; Charlie Bell - 1934 red Ford 3 window coupe; James Tallant - 1952 black Willy's sedan; Tom Benoit - 1955 yellow Ford Tbird; Curtis Porter - 1965 blue Cobra; James Stephens - 1954 orange/white Oldsmobile 2 door hard top, Bud Waldon - 1969 orange Chevrolet Camero; Ronald and Linda Hyde - 1937 red Chevrolet 3 door sedan; Tom Evans - 1934 burgundy Ford; Mike and Liz Akins - 1965 red, Ford Mustang Fast Back, and Philip Pinson - 1932 red Ford 5 Window.

The Best Truck Trophies were awarded to: Bill Kuykendall - 1965 gray Ford F- 100, Roger Hendren - 1948 orange Chevrolet pickup, Allan Summerville - 1950 red Chevrolet pickup, Gary LaLonde - 1956 white & silver Ford pickup, David A. Hall - 1978 black Ford F-150 Ranger, David Johnston - 1939 red Ford pickup, Charles Selfslaghs - 1954 red Chevrolet pickup, Jeremy Adams - 1948 black Chevrolet pickup, Ronnie Cantrell - 1977 black Ford F-100 Ranger XLT and Harold Edison - 1953 red Ford F-100 pickup.

Smaller trophies were handed out to the kids in various age groups for participating in games and a coin toss contest.

That wraps it up for another year as the club starts to plan next year's Car Show with added games for kids, more trophies and plaques awarded for specialty cars and trucks, judging by classes and trophies guaranteed to be awarded by 3:30 p.m. Coming up in 2008, The Good Neighbors Auto Club will be celebrating their 25th year anniversary as a Car Club.
