Towns Co. Sheriff's election December 4 The run-off election for Towns County Sheriff will be held this coming Tuesday, December 4, 2007. All precincts will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voting machines will be set up in Young Harris at the old elementary school; in the Senior Center in Hiawassee (next to the Courthouse); at the little gym at the school complex on 76 East; and at Tate City. The original six candidates have been cut down to two- Chris Clinton and Rudy Roach. These two names will be the only items on the ballet. Whoever wins this election will take office on January 1, 2008 to fill the unexpired term of former Sheriff Rudy Eller. That term expires the end of 2008 and Towns County will have another election in November of 2008 to elect a sheriff for a four-year term. A third forum on the two candidates was held on Monday, November 26 with the school auditorium again quite full. The first forum was held by the League of Women Voters of Towns County and the remaining two held by Towns County Homeowners Association. Both organizations did an outstanding job and are to be commended for bringing important questions from the community. |
