The Blairsville Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) sponsored a successful Fall Family Fun Night, showing a free movie (Cars) on the playground of the Elementary School. The next Family Fun Night is planned for December 1, at 5 p.m. inside the Primary School. The evening will begin with a cake walk, a silent auction for various gift baskets, and pizza followed by a free movie - "Polar Express". Concessions will be available for a small fee. Proceeds from the evening will go to the purchase of playground equipment for the Primary School, as well as future PTO events.

The general PTO meeting was held on October 29, 2007, with a representative of the SPLOST committee providing information about the upcoming vote (Thanks to all who voted!), and PTO Vice President Kris-Ann Stanley provided a brief overview of the past and current activities and fundraisers, The remainder of the evening was delightful program called Pen Pals at Home and Away presented by several first and second grade students from the classes of Ms. Groves, Mrs. Hussion, Ms. Cook and Mrs. Stubblefield. The next general meeting will be held on March 24, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at the Middle School with entertainment by the Middle School Chorus, as well as a raffle with door prizes and a presentation by representative of the I-Safe Committee.

At the PTO Board meeting on November 12, Mellissa Wallis of the I-Safe Committee presented information regarding internet safety and our children. Union County's I-Safe Parent Board is providing free training and presentations to the local community. For further information, contact Bob Williams at 706-745-2483 or bwilliams@ucschools.org

The fall fundraiser through Jaxco was a success. Additionally, the PTO has just finished taking orders for Panther Spirit Wear, including t-shirts and ball caps. The PTO still has some flip flops, visors and towels available.

Just a reminder that joining the PTO is only $5 for the year, with proceeds used to fund activities and events for the schools.

For anyone wishing to contact the PTO, each school has a PTO mailbox which is checked regularly. The 2007-2008 PTO Executive Board members are: President, Melinda Weldon; Vice President, Kris-Ann Stanley; Secretary, Lisa Harmon; and Treasurer, Catherine Williams.
