Local DAR Chapter announces Essay Contest winners

The Old Unicoi Trail Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, NSDAR, has announced the chapter winners of the 2007-2008 American History Contest and Christopher Columbus Essay Contest. There was very good response this year; 213 essays were received from the public, private, and home schools in Fannin, Union, and Towns counties.

The Union County winner was seventh grade Amy Elizabeth Brumley, Union County Middle School.

The winners, with their parents and teachers, will be honored at the DAR's School Awards Program in April, 2008.

The winning essays are being forwarded to compete in the district level and then hopefully to the state and national levels.
