CAP Provides Program for the Kiwanis Club Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Group Commander Lt. Col. Wayne Rosshaven addressed the Blairsville Kiwanis Club on Monday, Nov. 12th. The CAP was formed as a part of Civil Defense on Dec. 1, 1941, was transferred to the Dept. of the Army during WWII, and, after the Air Force was formed, it became an auxiliary of that service. There are 52 Wings, one for each state and Puerto Rico. There are 6 groups in Georgia, and Lt. Col Rosshaven is Commander of the Group which includes Blairsville. The local CAP is under the command of Capt. B. J. Mickfalls. There are three primary missions of the CAP : Aerospace education Emergency Service- The CAP accomplishes 95% of the search and rescue missions instead of the Air Force. Operating a Cadet Program- There are currently 12 cadets in the Blairsville program. A cadet Honor Guard will be available for local ceremonies.
