Girls Cross Country gets 7th in State
Abernathy finishes 15th out of over 200 runners

After taking the 8AA Region crown last weekend, the Lady Panthers came in 7th place out of 32 teams in Class AA. Freshman Holli Abernathy paced the Lady Panthers with a time of 21:01:38 which placed her 15th overall. Also placing for the Lady Panthers were Mary Ann Schramke in 56th with a time of 22:52:11, Katy Browning in 59th at 22:59, Nicole Goldbacher in 61st at 23:04, Sydney Pope 71st with a time of 23:42, Emma Krier in 83rd at 24:04, and Erika Bunpermkoon in 107th at 25:06.

Other 8AA girls teams competing at state were North Oconee, Dawson, and Rabun. North Oconee came in 5th, Dawson 8th, and Rabun 9th. Individually, North Oconee had a freshman take come in first and Fannin had a freshman finish in 10th. Along with Union County's freshman, Holli Abernathy, Region 8AA will remain competitive for many years to come in Cross Country.

Lovett took first place in the overall competition with Pace Academy, Wesleyan, Holy Innocents, and North Oconee rounding out the top five.
