Vester Eugene "Gene" Shuler
Gene was born July 31, 2007 in Union County, Georgia to Murphy Jane Fortenberry) and Marion Graden Shuler. Gene graduated from high school in Blairsville, Georgia. In 1945, he joined the Army where he served as an automotive mechanic with Hq. Company, 343rd Engineers General Service Regiment in Germany. His duties included: repairing trucks, grinding valves, adjusting brakes, maintaining fuel system and electrical repairs. He supervised the work for 10 civilian mechanics. He also was carpenter for the Army Service Forces Training Center. On July 17, 1948, Gene was united in marriage to Loujine Young in Blairsville, Georgia. In 1950, they moved to Walden, Colorado where Gene worked for Ozark-Mahoney. He also worked for Willford Motors, Cooper Motors and was the Supervisor of Maintenance with Sigma Coal Company. He was a member of the North Baptist Church, a lifetime member of the VFW, a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was Under-Sheriff of Walden. Gene had many hobbies including playing the fiddle, guitar and mandolin. He enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing and traveling. He enjoyed spending time eating and visiting with family and friends. Gene is survived by his wife of 59 years Loujine Shuler. He has two children; son, Carl Shuler and wife Patty and daughter, Gwen Hanson and husband Kirk all of Walden. He has 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters. A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 2, 2007 at the North Park Community Church in Walden. Interment was at the Jackson County Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gene's name in care of the Mountain Valley Bank for the North Park Medical Center.
