Hankin & Schwab pair for concert at Folk School

Instrumentalist Wayne Hankin and pianist Jacqueline Schwab will perform in a concert presented by Brasstown Concert Association on Sunday, November 11, at 2:30 p.m. at John C. Campbell Folk School.

In a program entitled "3 x 2", the concert will showcase the individual talents of the artists as well as pair them in a joint performance. Schwab will perform works combining classical with the traditional repertory for piano. Hankin will perform music spanning nearly 1000 years, playing on a variety of pre-classical woodwind instruments. The two artists will conclude the concert by performing together new works specifically developed for the duo.

Hankin is a leading artist of period woodwinds instruments dating before 1750. Over a 25-year career, he has performed over 3000 concerts, played every major city in the United States, Canada and in numerous venues world wide. He performed with Cirque du Soleil for five years. Hankin has composed over 300 works for period instruments and received numerous awards and commissions. His conducting debut was made at the Houston Grand Opera.

Pianist Jacqueline Schwab will join Hankin in a program entitled "3 x 2", showcasing the individual and joint talents of the two musicians.

Schwab is a specialist in folk and classical improvisation best known as the musical signature of numerous Ken Burns' documentaries Civil War, Baseball, and World War II. With over 40 recordings to her credit as well as many soundtracks for PBS television, she has performed for Prairie Home Companion on NPR as well as at The White House in Washington, DC.

A tour of Kelischek Workshop for Musical Instruments in Brasstown and a meet-the-artists reception will immediately follow the concert.

The concert will be held in the Keith House of John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown. No reservations are required, and seating is by general admission. Tickets cost $14 for adults and $7 for students. Half-season tickets are also available. For more information call 828-389- 0033.
