Rowena Addington Akins

Mrs. Rowena Addington Akins, 91, of Blairsville, Ga., died Friday, October 26, 2007 at Heartland Hospice in Dunwoody, Georgia. Mrs. Akins was born Friday, February 18, 1916 in Union County, Ga., to the late Joab and Della Gillespie Addington. She was a member of Harmony Grove Baptist Church and had been preceded in death by her husband, Loy Akins.

Survivors include daughters, Frances Akins Dickey of Chamblee, Georgia and Betty Akins Austin of Douglasville, Georgia; son, Michael J. Akins of Blairsville; a sister, Mary Martin of Knoxville, Tennessee, and a brother, John Addington of Marietta, Ga.; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with the Rev. Stacy Dyer officiating. Interment followed in Harmony Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott Dickey, Ken Dickey, Michael Sam Akins, Chris Jordan, Belinda Barker and Regina Jordan.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, 4598 Barclay Dr., Dunwoody, GA 30338.
