Head Start/Pre-K Celebrates Community

The Towns County HeadStart/Pre-K program enjoyed visits from several communityagencies who came to givedetails to the children abouttheir jobs and what they do forour community. Students fromYoung Harris College workedto coordinate the center'sReading Is Fundamental (RIF)Event, "Community ReadsAloud." RIF is a national pro-gram that promotes literacy andprovides books to each student.The Head Start/Pre-K pro-gram thanks the following fortheir participation in the month long community helpers theme: Young Harris College students Kevin Davis, Danielle Bryant, and Blake Peerson; Towns County Emergency Medical Service personnel Joseph Floyd and Frank Lowery; Blairsville Optical, Linda King; Towns County Fire Department personnel Jason Jones, Jeff Krokonko and Mark Harden; The Craddock Center storyteller Kim Cheves; Dental Hygienist Holly Mejia; Glenda Parker of Glenda Parker Realty; Fire Safety House personnel Penny Tanner, Anthony Olson (Chico the Clown); and Harold Copeland; Georgia Forestry Commission personnel Roy Fortenberry (Smokey the Bear), Bo Berry, Chad Sutton and Keith Moss.

The Towns County Head Start/Pre-K program enjoyed visits from several community agencies who came to give details to the children about their jobs and what they do for our community. We invite all community helpers, parents and anyone interested in being a part of our program to drop in at anytime to visit. The Towns County Head Start/Pre-K program is high-quality early childhood program that is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children, and is Day Care licensed.

Head Start children must be three or four years old by September 1, 2007. Pre-K children must be 4 years old by September 1, 2007. Head Start serves children with disabilities. Enrollment is open to all three- and four-year old children who qualify regardless of race, sex, creed, or origin. For more information contact the office at (706) 896-4272, ext. 3.
