Despite tips, no arrests in Towns

As of press time, there still has not been an arrest in the robbery of Stephens Federal Bank in Hiawassee that occurred on Tuesday, October 23, around 3:00 p.m.

Although no arrest has been made, there have been some very good tips and leads come into Hiawassee Police Department and GBI office. "We appreciate any tips and leads that the public can give. We have gotten several and we would please ask that anyone that knows anything to call. You can remain anonymous and you can call anytime, day or night." stated Police Chief Jimmy Wright.

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5'9"- 6'0" in height, slight build, brown hair and hazel eyes, wearing a camouflage baseball cap and a camouflage long sleeved, pull-over shirt. The suspect fled the scene in small, 1996 or 1997, white, 2- door Chevrolet Cavalier with black front and rear bumpers.

This individual is believed to be responsible for several of the recent bank robberies in North East Georgia. The most recent of these was the Stephens Federal Bank. He could also be responsible for some of the past robberies that have occurred in this area over the past year.
