Ladies finish fourth in Region 8AA

Union County wins two games in Region Playoffs

Coach Jessica Stewart and her Union County Lady Panthers (22-10/8-2) finished fourth in Region 8AA and will return to the State Sectionals for the second consecutive season.

The Lady Panthers went 2-2 in the Region Tournament with wins over the Oglethorpe County Patriots (16-17), last Tuesday and the state-clinching victory over the Dawson County Tigers by the score of 10-3 on Thursday. The win over Dawson County was the Lady Panther's third victory over the Tigers this season.

The Lady Panthers fell 6-2 to the Class AA defending state champs North Oconee (25-8) on Thursday. Then lost 4-0 to the Morgan County Bulldogs (20-10) on Saturday in the the Region Consolation game.

Union County will open up State Sectional play with the Greater Atlanta Christian Spartans. The Spartans are the #1 seed from Region 6AA. The game will take place on Friday at 6:00 P.M. at Alto Park in Rome. The State Sectionals are a double-elimination tournament with the top four teams from sectionals advance to Columbus for the State Elite 8.
