At 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23rd, Hiawassee City Police was dispatched to (Stephen's Federal Bank, located by Ingles) for a possible robbery. At 2:52, Officer Arvil Walls arrived on the scene, barely missing the suspect.
According to Police Chief Jimmy Wright, "We have some very good surveillance video so we are hopeful that someone might recognize this individual or the get away vehicle. We encourage any tipster to please call either our department at 706-896-2203 or the GBI Tip line at 888-233-5680."
Not much information can be released by Police and GBI at this time but we do know that the suspect first went into the Bank of Hiawassee Young Harris Branch, left without any money, and made his way on to Stephen's Federal, robbed the bank and got away in a light colored Chevrolet vehicle.
GBI and Hiawassee City Police are encouraging all surrounding areas to take a good look at the surveillance photos and keep their eyes open or call if they recognize this individual.
"We are very happy that no one was hurt. We want this guy caught but public safety is always our number one concern," stated Wright.
The GBI are working on enhancing the video even more, and gathering more information.
