Douglas John Hiler
Doug was born February 4, 1959 in Atlanta, Ga., the son of Bob and Jean Hiler of Blairsville, Ga. The family moved to Gainesville in 1962 from Decatur, Ga. He attended Riverbend Elementary, graduated from North Hall High School in 1977, Lanier Technical Institute in 1997, and MSI-Viking Gage. He worked at Deep South, Peachtree Doors, Industrial Boulevard Steel, and Kubota. Doug was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ga., North American Hunting Club and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Doug has made hundreds of friends over this lifetime. Survivors include parents, Robert J. "Bob" and Monica Jean Hiler of Blairsville, Ga; brother Bobby Hiler of Bella Vista, Ariz., his son Shane, daughter-in-law Brandi, and grand-children Morgan and Seth; brother-in-law and sister Dan and Debbie Godfrey of Toccoa, Ga., and their two daughters Christina and Monica; brother and sister-inlaw Mike and Rebecca Hiler of Dahlonega, Ga., and their three children Wendy, Kristin, Michael, II, their daughter-inlaw Beth and grandchild Joshua; brother and sister-inlaw, Fred and Cathy Hiler of Cumming, Ga., and their daughter and son-in-law, Nanci and Donald Tackett and grandchild, Aidon; German Shepherds: Rosco, Niya, Sara, and Summer; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins in Social Circle, Ga., Arkansas, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Ohio, Alabama, Florida, and Kentucky. Visitation was held at 5:00 p.m. and the funeral service followed at 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Saint Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, in Cleveland, Ga. Rev. Richard Wise and Rev. Thad B. Rudd officiated. Music provided by Robert Wolfersteig and Caridad Derflinger. Honorary Pallbearers were Charles Cagle, John Blackstock, Kenneth Ash, Ashley Hardin, David Looper, Don Harrison, Chuck Whitehead, David Foster, Joey Coker, and Kenneth Kaminski.
