Ethel Ferguson Cheeks

Mrs. Ethel Cheeks, age 86, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2007 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home in Hiawassee.

Mrs. Cheeks was born Tuesday, November 30, 1920 in Towns County, Georgia, to the late Bill and Lydia Edwards Ferguson. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Young Harris, Georgia. Ethel had lived at the Branan Lodge in Blairsville for 23 years prior to moving to Chatuge Regional Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlie Cheeks in 1981.

Survivors include: son and daughter-in-law, Cecil and Susan Cheeks of Hiawassee, Georgia; daughter, Bobbie Nicholson of Doraville, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Ray Potts of Blairsville; son, Benny Cheeks of Cornelia, Georgia; daughter & son-in-law, Martha and Elliott Oakes of Prattsville, New York; brothers, Roy Ferguson of Adairsville, Georgia; and Floyd Ferguson of Cumming, Georgia; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one greatgreat grandchild, many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday October 16, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with the Rev. Michael Potts and Rev. David Timmer officiating. Music was provided by Edward and Shirley Mashburn. The following gentlemen served as pallbearers: Ray Potts, Bonnell Thomas, David Ferguson, Herman Cheek, Horace Cheek, and Jerry Cheek. Interment followed in Woods Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 until 9 p.m. Monday evening.
