Door prizes and great food enjoyed by all. Shown here Melissa Lance introduces guest speaker.
The Union County Farm Bureau had their annual dinner Tuesday, September 25, with approximately 220 people in attendance. The dinner was held at the First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Blairsville. Junior Arrant, president of Union County Farm Bureau, welcomed everyone, with Paul Thompson, vice president, conducting the election of officers. Junior Arrant, was elected as president and Paul Thompson as vice-president. Royce Dyer, Jimmy Spivia, Larry Trulove and Harvey Deaver were elected as board members for 2 years.

Micky Cumming, Union County Extension Agent introduced Melissa Lance, an award winning 4-H student from Union County High School. She introduced our special guest speaker, Dr. John McKissick, from the University of Georgia. Dr. McKissick is a nationally recognized economist and serves as Director of the University of Georgia's Center for Agribusiness and Economic Development and Extension program coordinator for the Department of Agriculture and Applied Economics. His informative presentation included statistics specific to Union County agribusiness and the importance of north Georgia's agribusiness to the overall economy of the state.

The Union County Farm Bureau staff and board members would like to thank everyone who came to the dinner, to the local businesses who donated gifts for door prizes, and a special thank you to the First Baptist Church and their staff, Micky Cumming, Melissa Lance, Dr. John McKissick, all our special guests and to Terry Kane and his family for all the help with the preparation of the food.
