Brasstown, N.C. - The Spanish folk music ensemble La Musgaña will perform Sunday, October 14 in a concert presented by Brasstown Concert Association (BCA) and underwritten by United Community Bank.
The concert, which will be held at John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, is the first stop on the Madrid-based group's American tour promoting their new album "Temas Profanos."
Performed on a variety of traditional and contemporary instruments, the music of La Musgaña is a soundtrack of both daily life and special events in rural Spain. Karen Borchers, BCA President, said, "Courting songs, wedding dances, village celebrations, lullabies, harvest songs and even a prayer for rain are the sounds of Spanish life that La Musgaña will bring to us."
"This music we play, we feel very close to it," stated Jaime Muñoz, La Musgaña member. "We are not trying to present it like a window in the anthropological museum. You can find this music still alive at weddings, parties or elsewhere in the countryside. These aren't sounds from another time; this is our music today!"
Regarding its financial support of the concert, United Community Bank President and CEO, Jimmy Tallent, said, "Our region is privileged to have an organization like Brasstown Concert Association that can present such diverse entertainment as La Musgaña for all to enjoy. I'm so happy that United Community Bank is able to underwrite this concert and I hope everyone has an opportunity to attend this special performance."
La Musgaña will perform in concert Sunday, October 14, at 2:30 p.m. in the Keith House of John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown. No reservations are required, and seating is by general admission. Tickets cost $14 for adults and $7 for students. Half-season tickets are also available. For more information call 828-389-0033.
This concert is also supported by North Carolina Arts Council, an agency funded by the State of North Carolina and the National Endowment for the Arts.
