The Good Relations Band brings special evening of music
The Brasstown Community Civic Center is proud to announce that there will be one more concert for this season. By special arrangement, The Good Relations Band, from Lake County, Florida will perform their own eclectic mix of tunes on Saturday, October 13, at 7:00 p.m. Starting out as the trio of Jane Thomas, Max Thomas, and Charlie Liles, The Good Relations Band began playing in 1989. Along the way, they added bass guitarist Gene Kessinger and banjo player Lance Graham to form the group as it exists today.
This group performs a wide variety of music, due to the eclectic mix of musicians in it. Each member of the group brings his/her own musical preference into the performance. Max Thomas provides vocals for many Elvis Presley songs as well as early rock & roll and contemporary country selections. He is most often accompanied by his wife, Jane, on many of the "oldies, but goodies" of the 50's and 60's. Lance Graham brings his love for singing and playing Bluegrass and Gospel music. And, although one would not expect to hear a banjo backing up a rock or big-band number, Lance pulls it off - and it sounds great! Charlie Liles sings songs from many different styles and his bass voice provides the foundation for the other voices. But Charlie's real love is old country. He solos on several Johnny Cash songs as well as those of other great Grand Ole Opry stars. Gene Kessinger contributes to the musical diversity of the band by adding his voice to the music he prefers -- Big-Band and jazz, but he and Lance have recently digressed into other areas, adding a humorous element to the band's repertoire. Jane Thomas provides the band with the musical ability to pull all these various music styles together through her gifted keyboard playing. Each selection is augmented with selected rhythms and instrumentations to provide for a fuller, more pleasing sound. Jane, often referred to as the "rose among the thorns," also solos on songs made popular by female vocalists past and present.
Living and working in Lake County, Florida, The Good Relations Band usually performs in the central Florida area. However, the group has traveled to locations as far away as Alabama, North Carolina, and even Illinois to perform for private parties. The most rewarding performances, they say, have been the ones closer to home, at assisted living and nursing care facilities in central Florida. Sharing the gift of music with others is what it's all about.
