Only you can prevent flu!
With flu season fast approaching, Sentinel Readers might want to take these articles into consideration on protecting yourself and your family.

Health Departments in the 13-county area will offer the flu vaccine in accordance with guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and the Georgia Division of Public Health.

It is recommended that all persons who want to reduce the risk of becoming ill with influenza or of transmitting influenza to others get the flu shot, including children aged 6 months to 18 years, women who will be pregnant during the influenza season; adults and children who have chronic pulmonary (including asthma) disorders, adults and children who have any condition that can compromise respiratory function or the handling of respiratory secretions or that can increase the risk for aspiration; and residents of nursing homes and other chronic-care facilities.

Vaccination also is recommended for health care personnel and caregivers of children aged >59 months (i.e., aged <5 years) and adults aged >50 years. Call Towns County Health Department at 706-896- 2265. Cost for the vaccine is $25. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted at all health departments.
