First tackle team hits ground running
Mountain Area Christian Academy hit the ground running with its first tackle football team. During MACA's first game we had over 400 yds. rushing and won 44-35. With this hard fought victory the MACA Lions started 8-man football with their first ever win.
MACA had joined a league of 8-man football teams. You might wonder what the difference between 8-man and the traditional 11-man football is. There are two less down linemen and one less running back. The games can be played on a standard size 100 yd. Field or a smaller 80 yd. Field; most teams play on the standard field since most fields are this size. Many people think it is like arena football, but the rules follow the Georgia High School Athletic Association (GHSAA) rules exactly except for the number of players. Either way, the action is exciting.
The MACA Lions traveled to Cleveland, TN, but lost their second contest. They rebounded in game #3 with a 34-0 win in Winder, GA.
The Lions are very young with only two seniors, one jun- ior, and the rest are 8th and 9th graders. The team is very inexperienced but they have come along very quickly and play their hearts out.
The team is being coached by Jamie Dockery, an alumni of Copper Basin, Byron McCombs, an alumni of Union County High School, and Mike Kiernan, head coach and an alumni of Union County High School.
MACA focuses on fundamentals, character, teamwork, sportsmanship and Christian values. We want to glorify God in all we do.
