Food, wine draws crowd for annual 'Puttin' on the Dog'
By JOAN CROTHERS Sentinel Writer

It just keeps getting bigger and more polished- the Humane Society's Mountain Shelter "Puttin' on the Dog," that is. This was the seventh year for this great auction and wine tasting held at Crane Creek Winery, Saturday, September 25, 2007.

They always expect a crowd, but this year it looked like most of the ticket buyers showed up to enjoy the good food, catered by Moschetto's of Young Harris, and the wine, supplied by Eric and DeAnne Seifarth, Crane Creek Vineyards, and the many, many items donated for the silent and live auctions.

Norm Bennett has organized this exciting event the past five years, with help this year from Betty Foss- auctions, Tricia Spear- volunteers, and Ken Snyder- food and logistics. Many others volunteers, the program says, were "too numerous to list." Everyone contributing made it an evening to remember.

Proceeds go toward the care of the cats and dogs at the Towns Union Humane Society's Mountain Shelter, and their new project, Waggin' Wheels. Donations are needed for the purchase of a safe, dependable vehicle for the transport of animals for adoption day, go to vets, other no-kill shelters and spay/neuter facilities.

You're invited to come see and adopt one of these animals that so need a loving home. The shelter is located on Hwy. 76, about halfway from Young Harris to Blairsville, 706-781-3843 or send a much appreciated donation to P.O. Box 1252, Blairsville GA 30514. Their Thrift Shops are located across from the Towns County Schools in Hiawassee, and across from the Blairsville Restaurant on Earnest Street in Blairsville.
