Narcotics Anonymous

Mountain Folks Group meets every Friday night at 8:00 p.m. at New Hope Fellowship Church, 1299 Old Blue Ridge Hwy., next to Byers Well Drilling and on Tuesday Night at 7 p.m. at the New Hope Treatment Facility. Road to Recovery

Are you a cancer patient? Do you need a ride to and from your treatment sessions? A lack of transportation should not be the reason why cancer patients do not receive the life-saving cancer treatment they need. The American Cancer Society offers their Road to Recovery program to help transport cancer patients to and from their treatment. The Society has a toll-free number that you may call, and an operator will put you in touch with local volunteers that give cancer patients without personal transportation rides to and from their cancer treatment sessions. Bereavement Support Group

Welcome to a community bereavement support group. A place to share your thoughts and feelings and grow together with others who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

GWRRA meets

Chapter J of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) meets the third Saturday of each month at Daniel's Steak House in Hiawassee. Lunch is at 11 a.m. and the meeting is at noon.

We encourage current members of the GWRRA and anyone interested in becoming a member to join us. Guests are always welcome, and we look forward to seeing participants from other chapters. Misty Mountain Quilt Guild

Misty Mountain Quilt Guild of Georgia - North Carolina will have their bi-annual quilt show October 12 & 13, 2007 at North Georgia Technical School in Blairsville, Ga. In addition to the quilt show, you will have an opportunity to shop at our boutique full of handmade items or purchase quilting supplies from vendors.

There will also be a silent auction of fabulous mini-quilts. The drawing for our beautiful king size quilt, "Stars Over Georgia", will be held on the last day of the show. Crafty Cat Show

October 6 at the Blairsville Civic Center, 9 a.m.-noon. Enter your cat or cat picture. Free admission for two events, a craft show and cat show. Free Dance Classes

To accommodate its recent growth, Blairsville School of Dance has expanded to add a second classroom and larger waiting area. To celebrate and to thank the community for its support over the past year, Blairsville School of Dance will be offering free dance classes. Art Center Children's Classes

The Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association is offering home school and after school classes as well as beginning ballet starting the week of October 1. UCIG Fall Festival - Call For Vendors

Union County Interagency Group (UCIG) will be holding its Fall Festival of Community Services on Saturday, October 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the First Baptist Church in Blairsville. Advance Directive Information Meeting

The Georgia General Assembly has enacted a new law related to Advance Directives that is called

Georgia Advance Directive for Health Care" effective on July 1, 2007. The purpose of this new law is to provide a form that includes both what was called the Living Will, which instructed one's physician to withhold or withdraw certain life sustaining treatments that would only prolong or postpone the dying process and the Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care that appointed someone to make one's medical decision if one was unable to do so. It is important to note that any Advance Directives written prior to July 1, 2007, remain in effect and valid if valid prior to new law. Union County Nursing Home, 550 Nursing Home Circle, will host an educational meeting that is open to the pubic on Friday, September 28 at 3:00 p.m. in the Activity Room on the new Georgia Advance Directive for Health Care.
